“The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.”— C.G. Jung.
Rafael is a licensed therapist who has obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, along with a Master of Science degree in Counseling, with a dual emphasis in both Play Therapy and Marriage and Family therapy.
He has experience serving the city of Joplin for the last almost 2 years, effectively serving couples, families, children, and adults. Rafael has effectively treated those in the LBGTQ community and those who have non-traditional relationships. As a strong advocate, Rafael endeavors to provide a safe and professional environment to clients. He is currently a psychology doctoral student and believes that it is important to not only be present with clients but also to stay well informed regarding mental health.
Rafael is an Army veteran and advocate for mental health. He believes that there is a stigma for those from certain backgrounds and believes promoting client wellbeing in all situations.
Rafael has training in multiple modalities, which vary depending on presenting issues, background, and cultural influences. As a lifelong learner, he endeavors to stay on the cutting edge of mental health treatment modalities. Rafael uses many approaches, these include Gestalt, Jungian, DBT, and Systems Theories with individuals. The use of Gestalt and child-centered play is his approach for Play Therapy. Rafael uses both Gottman and EFT oriented approaches for relationships.
Outside the office, you may find Rafael spending time with his family, traveling, attending a show, or competing in video game tournaments. One of Rafael’s favorite places to travel is Switzerland, but he has traveled to several countries and states during his lifetime.
